Facebook security is definitely getting better and there are plenty of ways to make sure your ‘privacy’ is safe and you have control over who sees what and what can use your account.
One thing I use, is the two-step verification setup for adding new ‘machines’ to your account. Which means you have to attach a mobile number to your account.
Once this is done, when you access Facebook (or sign-in somehow) on a new machine/device, Facebook will send you an SMS to check that it’s you signing in.

Then you enter a code into the login page which verifies that you are indeed who you say you are and you can go about your business.
Afterwards, you also get an email letting you know a new device has been added as well as a notification on Facebook to let you know. Giving you an opportunity to say if it wasn’t actually you!

It might feel like overkill but I like it. Even though I don’t really have anything to hide, or anyone to hid anything from; It’s good to know that only I can access my account. My friends data is safe in my hands.
