So I’ve been meaning to restart this blog for several months now. It seems like not much has changed in the last few months but the main thing that has is that Christopher Nolan has released the final chapter to his Dark Knight Legacy; and he certainly doesn’t hold any punches!
This is going to be a relatively short review, free from spoilers and not going into too much detail but I’ll cover the main points that you’ll want to know before watching the movie.
Things start at a quick enough pace but three he first hour of the movie, we’re just setting the scene. Thes no Batman for quite some time and it’s easy to forget you’re watching a superhero movie! We’re re-introduced to some old favourites and Bane is introduced at first as a booming voice from the corner of the cinema then you get to see Iain in all his glory. Menacing and careless.
You eventually get to see Bruce Wayne hit rock bottom, as the story progresses, you can see that the inevitable is going to happen… Batman is going to return. Then the fun begins. This is where I’ll skip the detail to prevent spoiling anything, but. I will talk about the characters.
Bane is a menace, not as much as I hoped he would be but you still get that sense that he’s a genius and thinks of everything to make sure HIS ultimate goal will play out. Tom Hardy is great in this role but it’s a real shame you never see his face, it’s surprising how well he can act with just his eyes showing!
Selina Kyle is probably my favourite version of Catwoman I’ve seen and although Hathaway doesn’t have the catty one-liners that Pfeiffer had, she most certainly looks the best Catwoman. Especially when her goggles flip up on her head to create her cat ears! Genius!!
John Blake is a special role, this hot headed cop is swiftly promoted to Detective after showing his deduction skills off to Commissioner Gordon. It’s as a detective that Blake really comes into his own, pretty much carrying the middle third of the movie. You watch this character grow throughout and by the end of the movie, you want another two hours, just with him!
I’ll save the rest of the characters for the spoiler riddled review, but seriously, if you’re considering watching this movie, don’t wait. Just go. It’s a great finale to this trilogy and wraps everything up nicely.
Wear a Batman tee in honour of those in Colorado and defy the attention seeking shooter. Go to the cinema this weekend and watch Dark Knight Rises.
