iPhone OS 4.0 beta

So today I got round to installing iPhone OS 4.0 beta 3 and I’m glad my iPhone is back.

It’s less buggy, it doesn’t hang when I unlock it, the camera works again! That’s what I get for testing beta software but it’s worth it.

What I’m really excited about though, is the much rumoured launch of the iPhone HD. I stand by my original prediction that we will see the iPhone HD on June 22nd.

New design, new camera (with a flash and HD video recording), snappier processor and better battery life.

Everything else can stay the same. 4.0 NEEDS a bigger battery. The camera is still pretty much fine. But a better one would up the ante so much! I’d actually consider NOT buying a separate.
Since my Sony Cybershot W-Somethingorother broke, I’ve made do with my iPhone. Improving the camera would settle my predicament of which camera to get to replace my Sony.

More thoughts on 4.0 and the iPhone HD will follow, the closer we get to June!

  1. Apple has announced WWDC to start on the 7th so we’ll more than likely see it made official then, but 22nd sounds like a good date for release.

I’ve heard 4.0 beta 3 is still very buggy compared to 3.1.3. I think I’ll try harder to learn objective C before I enroll in the dev program

  2. Totally agree. I think they’ll show it off at WWDC and release it on the 22nd.

Beta 3 is the best yet – 2 was terrible, but 3 makes it feel like a phone again!

I expect the beta updates to turn into weekly ones soon, as we get closer to WWDC.

The 4.0 GM release for developers will be released at WWDC nice and early too!
